The Power Grab booklet poses a question. The question is not whether you are leaving a legacy. You already are. Every woman does, regardless of whether she has thought about it, chosen it, or even particularly wanted it. The question — the only question that matters in this booklet — is whether the legacy you are leaving is the one you would choose, if you were choosing consciously.

Most of us inherit our legacies before we are old enough to have an opinion about them. We absorb what our families valued. We learn what made us useful, lovable, safe. We develop the instincts and orientations that kept us oriented in the particular world we grew up in. None of this
was wrong. It was intelligent adaptation. But at some point — often around the time of a significant transition, which is probably why you are here — the inherited shape no longer fits the woman who has been living inside it.
The work of this booklet is not to discard what you are. It is to look at it with enough honesty and enough care that you can distinguish between what you have chosen and what you have absorbed. Between the legacy you are building deliberately and the one that has been building itself, by default, in the background of your life.
